Skip Hire

Our Dorset skip hire service is ideal for commercial projects, home renovations, clearances and bulky waste where you have space for a skip on private property. QUESTION

What is Skip Hire?

Skip hire gives you a simple, on-site solution for getting rid of large volumes of waste, without the need for repeat van trips or constant bin changes. Whether you're clearing out a property, renovating a kitchen, or running a construction project, a skip lets you load waste at your own pace, and have it collected once you're done.

At Hurn Recycling, we supply a range of skip sizes to suit different jobs, all delivered and collected by our own local teams. No brokers and no subcontractors, just a straightforward skip hire service from people who know your area. Plus, we can coordinate skip hire with our network of partners nationwide.

YOUR OPTIONS

Skip Sizes

We recognise that no two requests are the same, which is why we offer two popular builders' skip sizes, suited to different types and volumes of waste.
Hurn 8yard skip

8-Yard Skip

One of our most popular sizes, our 8-yard skips are big enough for substantial waste but still suitable for most commercial and residential premises.
  • 3.7m (L) x 1.7m (W) x 1.2m (H)
  • Approx: 60–80 bin bags
  • Ideal for construction and DIY waste, large renovations, bulky materials, shop and office clear-outs, and general building waste.
Hurn 12yard skip

12-Yard Skip

Ideal for high-volume, lighter waste, our 12-yard skips are perfect for large commercial clearances and bulky materials where space matters more than weight.
  • 3.7m (L) x 1.7m (W) x 1.8m (H)
  • 100–120 bin bags
  • Ideal for large-scale clearances, commercial projects, bulky light waste, packaging, and high-volume non-heavy materials. *Not suitable for heavy construction waste such as soil, hardcore, rubble, or dense inert materials.
ACCEPTED ITEMS

PROHIBITED ITEMS

What You Can't Put in a Skip

Some items aren't permitted in a skip, either for safety reasons or because they need specialist disposal. These include:

  • Fridges and freezers
  • Upholstered items, such as sofas, chairs, and cushions
  • Paint tins, especially with liquid paint or residue
  • Mattresses
  • WEEE electrical items, such as TVs, monitors, computers, small appliances
  • Fluorescent tubes
  • Solvents and liquids of any kind, including chemicals and wet paint
  • Oils, such as engine, cooking, and hydraulic oil
  • Batteries of all types
  • Carpet
  • Plasterboard
  • Hazardous or toxic materials, including asbestos and clinical waste
  • Gas cylinders, full or empty

If you're unsure whether an item can go in your skip, don't worry. All of the above can be collected separately through our specialist waste services. Give us a call to find out more.

WHERE AND FOR HOW LONG

Skip Placement and Hire Period

Skips must be placed on private property, such as a driveway, garden, or other private land. They can't be left on the public highway, including roads, pavements, verges, or any council-owned land, so it's worth checking you have suitable space before booking.

All our skips are supplied on a 2-week hire period, with collection automatically scheduled for the 14th day after delivery.

If you require the skip for longer, that's no problem, just let us know in advance. You can extend your hire on a weekly basis, with additional weeks starting from £25, giving you flexibility to keep your project moving.

FOR LARGER PROJECTS

Roll-on/Off (RoRo) Containers

When a project generates more waste than even our largest skip can handle, our Roll-on/Off (RoRo) containers offer the next step up, built for large construction sites, manufacturing facilities, warehouse clearances, and commercial projects running consistent high volumes.

Unlike a crane-lifted skip, RoRo containers are delivered and collected using a specialist roll-on/off vehicle that slides the container directly onto and off the back of the lorry. That means they're best suited to sites with the space for a larger container and clear vehicle access for delivery and collection.

We supply a range of RoRo container sizes to match different project scales, from steady ongoing waste streams through to high-volume construction and demolition work. They can be used for general waste, construction and demolition materials, or kept separate for recyclables such as scrap metal, wood, or cardboard, depending on what your site needs.

Because RoRo containers tend to serve larger, longer-running projects, we'd recommend a quick site assessment first, just to confirm access and the right container size for the job. Give our team a call and we'll get that arranged.
